With two bathrooms needing attention, it was clear a phased approach would be required for this Melbourne home makeover.

Built-in the 1960s, this solid red brick house on the corner of Churchill Way in the outer Melbourne suburb of Kilsyth had stood the test of time. Whilst the house had undergone some minor updates over the years, the new homeowners recognised the need for an overall plan that would ultimately give them a functional home with a modern feel.
During the briefing process with their Refresh Renovations Consultant, Paul Cree, it was clear that by adopting a phased approach to their renovation plans, the homeowners could continue to live in the house during the process and avoid the costs associated with moving out and renting elsewhere.
The main bathroom of the house was cramped with very little light and no storage and the smaller second bathroom had similar issues.  To tackle both bathrooms at the same time would not suit the day to day operation of the household, so during the concept and feasibility phase, it was agreed to update the smaller bathroom first.

Developing the bathroom designs

“The real challenge was to transform a pokey powder room with just a vanity and shower into a luxury bathroom with a bath, shower, toilet and vanity. We love such challenges and had great fun throughout the concept and design phase,” said Paul.  The final design included the removal of a linen cupboard that was taking up too much floor space and increasing the size of the existing window to let in more light,“ he added.
A straight-arm rain shower was installed over the new drop-in bath.  A wall hung toilet was installed to enhance the sense of floor space whilst the modern rectangular sink now sits on a wooden benchtop with the free space underneath contributing to the roominess of the area.  The black tapware and pendant lights provide a luxe feel to the new room, whilst the white hexagonal floor to ceiling tiles, provide a great contrast with the new charcoal floor tiles.
With no unexpected challenges along the way, the project was completed in 3 weeks and came within budget at just under A$22k.

The benefits of working with a Refresh Renovations franchise

“Working with Refresh was seamless and easy,” said the homeowner. "We know that over time we will renovate the whole house so it was important to find the right company from the outset, one that could work with us now and into the future and I believe we found that in Paul and his team at Refresh Renovations.”
