A house extension allowed these Wanaka homeowners to add a fourth bedroom onto their home; providing private accommodation for their overseas visitors. Foundations, framing, windows, doors, siding, cladding and roofing all created the basis for this new room - with a walk-in wardrobe and interior decorating resulting in a spacious master bedroom. A few additional improvements around the house resulted in this project being completed for $88,000 NZD.

A lack of ground-level space meant that there was only one way this home extension could go: up. With an additional family member on the way, these homeowners decided to add an additional bedroom and bathroom onto their traditional weatherboard home. Eight square metres were added onto the ground floor of the home to allow for the 39 square metre first-floor addition.

In this basement conversion, renovation specialist Dominic Hollands had to get creative in order to achieve a granny flat design within his client’s budget. The updated design, achieved within a $65,000 budget, includes soundproofing and external access as well as a kitchen, bathroom, laundry and bedroom - providing the family’s relative with a self-contained living space.

While homeowner Catherine loved her location in Franklin, she wanted to be able to better provide for her frequent visitors. A room addition allowed her to create a lovely guest suite and also presented an opportunity for her to improve her home’s storage.
