Deciding that it was time to make some modern updates to their 1969 split level brick home, homeowners John and Sandy met with local Refresh Renovations Waikato Specialists Mandy and Lawrie Foster to discuss their ideas. Primarily, they wanted to redesign and rebuild their kitchen and bathroom - both of which, in some cases, had not been updated since 1969.

Bathroom designs

In their initial consultation with Mandy and Lawrie, John and Sandy emphasised that they wanted the new designs to be modern and functional. They also wanted to use the existing available space in their separate shower, toilet and bathroom to create a walk-in wardrobe design that would lead into a spacious bathroom. A large back-to-wall freestanding bathtub was high on their wishlist as well as a large tiled, frameless glass shower.
Moving on to the design stage, Mandy worked with John and Sandy to create hallway access to the bathroom. Mandy and Lawrie took care of the design , planning, costings, construction and installations - allowing Sandy and John to sit back and enjoy the process.
“We completely redesigned the space and it is now not only functional and practical but also stunning!”, says Mandy.
Under Mandy and Lawrie’s management, large format tiles were installed in the bathroom along with under-tile heating. John and Sandy got their dream shower and standalone bathtub as well as a feature recess with LED lighting above the bathtub. In-line with current trends, black accents have been installed throughout the bathroom in the form of black tapware and bathroomware.
“A beautiful St Michel wall hung vanity and Newtech LED wall mirror completed this stunning bathroom”, says Mandy.

Kitchen design

“Our brief was to bring the kitchen into the 21st century”, explains Mandy. “There was no opportunity to dramatically change the layout but with modern clean cabinetry lines and engineered stone benchtops, the kitchen has been transformed.”
The new design required the support of a builder, electrician, plumber and gib-stopper - all of whom Mandy and Lawrie’s team scheduled in and managed throughout the renovation. The team also scheduled the delivery of all of the project’s supplies including hardware and tapware from Placemakers and vinyl flooring from Carpet Mill.
“The kitchen was modernised using every available inch of space”, recalls Mandy. “The electric oven/gas top with an Award power-pack installed in the top cabinetry allows for John's culinary master-pieces without the steam and smell. It’s a much more functional and practical kitchen which looks great! Our whole team was stoked with the final result in both the bathroom and kitchen. Lots of favourites in this project. Great people, great projects and our team did us proud.”

Customer testimonials

“The work came in under time and budget – Mandy and Lawrie really care about the work they do”, says John. “The final result was above expectations. Some of our favourite features were removing the electric hot water cylinder and installing infinity gas (gaining extra storage space as well), the choice of a kitchen peninsula rather than an island in the kitchen, and the tiling of the recesses in the bathroom. The staff respected us and the work they carried out – they had great ideas and were very knowledgeable.”
