Time for an upgrade

When Nikki and Dave contacted Refresh Renovations to discuss the possibility of renovating their bathroom, they never imagined that a complete transformation could happen in just four short weeks. Their three-bedroom 1960s home in the popular Porirua seaside suburb of Titahi Bay had a bathroom that was basic, boring, and a little bit broken!
Old fixtures and ad hoc shelving made the room unloved and cluttered, while cracks in the floor required serious attention. The large window afforded fantastic natural light, but the joinery was broken and single pane glazing provided little protection against the cold Wellington wind.
Nikki and Dave got in touch with local Renovation Consultant Lia Boersma looking for advice and inspiration. They wanted an upgrade as soon as possible but didn’t know where to start or what was possible.

Ideas and Options

An expert in managing home renovations, Lia sat down with Dave and Nikki to understand their priorities and listen to what they really wanted out of their bathroom. This important part of the Refresh process enables Lia to understand her clients’ vision and create a tailored plan that suits their budget and lifestyle. The couple were also keen to listen to Lia’s ideas and advice, and to draw on her extensive knowledge of design trends and knack for problem-solving.
Dave and Nikki wanted a fresh, modern space that was light and bright. During the consultation they identified that the shower over the bath was not well utilised, and that the damaged flooring and window should be part of a complete renovation

A seamless process

Refresh’s structured process offered Dave and Nikki reassurance that their renovation would be completed on time, within budget, and be a stress-free experience. After they’d agreed on a concept, Lia drew up a detailed plan and budget for the couple so that they could see exactly what the cost would be before any construction began. Once Dave and Nikki were happy to move forward, the transformation got underway.
Lia was available as a single point of contact for Dave and Nikki throughout the entire renovation process and managed the process required to obtain the necessary council consent. Her Project Manager, Sashti Vasu, seamlessly coordinated multiple suppliers and specialised tradespeople, saving Dave and Nikki time and money by utilising an established network of local contractors – tilers, plumbers, builders, electricians, and painters – who brought their expert workmanship to the project.
Even with a Covid curveball landing in the middle of the project, Dave and Nikki’s renovation was still able to be delivered on time thanks to Sashti’s planning and re-scheduling of contractors.

Bright and Beautiful

Dave and Nikki’s bathroom underwent a complete transformation in just four short weeks. White fixtures, subway tile splashback, and paint combine to create an ultra-clean and modern space filled with warm natural light.
A spacious corner shower with unique curves has completely changed the bathroom’s look and layout. With the bath removed, the whole room now feels more spacious, and Lia was able to take advantage of the new layout with a large wall-hung vanity and mirrored cabinet that provides oodles of storage. Stylish new fittings add a touch of elegance.
New vinyl flooring in grey gives the look of tiles but keeps the surface warmer underfoot, and Dave and Nikki are relieved that all the cracks and holes have been taken care of. The damaged window was also replaced with a custom uPVC window that offers impressive insulation.

Final thoughts

Dave and Nikki are in love with their new bathroom, which is now a pleasure to use and has added value to their home. Lia is equally thrilled with the transformation: “The final results are amazing.
