An outdated bathroom led the owners of this 1930’s home to Refresh Renovations. The Island Bay bathroom initially included an eclectic colour scheme of red flooring, white and grey walls as well as a black tiled splashback. The diversity of colours, along with the thick enclosed walls surrounding the shower, made the space feel small, dark and cluttered. Not only that, it was later discovered that the floorboards were rotten. Seeking improvements, the homeowners contacted Refresh Renovations.
Wellington renovation specialist Lia Boersma met with the family for a free consultation where her customers presented their ideas and priorities.

Bathroom design

"It was important to the client that the style would suit their original home. They were wanting to keep the bath and vanity but upgrade the shower and toilet”, tells Lia.
Refresh’s bespoke design and build process meant that the bathroom update could be designed to the family’s budget, and they were given a clear idea of what the result would be, before work commenced. Because Lia managed the project for her customers, they were able to witness the transformation with minimal disruption to their daily schedule.

Bathroom renovation

It was decided that updating the flooring, colour scheme, splashback, shower and toilet was the best way forward. To begin with, Lia and her team removed all of the bathroomware so that new flooring could be installed.
Within four weeks the team completely repainted the bathroom, installed Moduleo Impress vinyl flooring, new splashback tiles in “Spirit White”, a new toilet, and they opened up the space by installing a luxury frameless shower. The original vanity, stand-alone bathtub and tapware were reinstalled. What once seemed a small and contrasting room is now a harmonious bathroom abode.

Final thoughts

“The transformation was amazing”, says Lia. “The bathroom feels like it has more space than it used to have; the new shower has brightened up the space. The clients are very happy with the results and love their new big shower.”
