Before After

Taking the First Step

Alison is the homeowner of a snug Manauwatu home in the picturesque Palmerston North. Wanting to upgrade her kitchen to create a lighter, open-plan space, she had originally purchased all the fixtures and fittings but needed assistance with installing her new kitchen.
She reached out to Refresh to get construction started and was put in touch with Renovation Specialist Wayne Gordon. In their initial meeting, Alison decided her bathroom needed an upgrade too; she envisioned a brighter space with a more modern vibe.
Eager to get stuck in, Renovation Specialist Wayne Gordon and his Project Manager Brian Taylor rolled up their sleeves, ready to give Alison’s kitchen and bathroom the contemporary renovation she desired.

Costing the Project

The final cost of the kitchen installation and bathroom renovation totalled $28,263. This number was slightly higher than the original quote due to scope adjustments and some bespoke detailing. Brian kept Alison fully in the loop to ensure she was comfortable with these adjustments. Knowing that Refresh Renovations’ project management avoids wasting 15% of the budget in the long run, Alison was happy with the final cost.
Impressed with the high level of professionalism, Alison has shared, “the quote was delivered promptly and was informative and professional. On acceptance of the quote, Brian then put together a timeline detailing what would happen and what tradies would be needed and when.”

Launching into Construction

Some minor product delays slightly extended the timeline, but Brian kept Alison frequently updated on all essential information. Alison said, “the communication was outstanding, and at all times, I felt well informed with updates and changes.”
During a period of the construction, Alison was working from home in a wheelchair after some surgery. She noted that “Brian and his team of construction professionals were accommodating, friendly, and helped out on daily coffee duty.”
Despite the unforeseen circumstances, Refresh Renovations completed the bathroom and kitchen revamp in four and a half months - a substantially reduced timeline than if she was embarking on the renovation solo. Brian comprehensively managed the project, so Alison had a relaxing and stress-free experience.

The Refreshed Kitchen

Brian and his renovation team removed the high beam divider between the kitchen and dining room area to further open up the area. The result is a space that’s more sociable and spacious.  Brian transformed the kitchen into a space that felt contemporary with its white colour palette and black accents.
Stainless steel appliances, a white marble benchtop, and plentiful storage are the perfect features to combine functionality and aesthetic. Alison opted for white subway tiling behind the stovetop to tie together the modern look.
The kitchen is the central hub of the home, so Alison wanted seating at the bench. The aim was to create a social environment for guests to chat and interact with people in the kitchen and dining room. The large existing windows emphasise this homely feel, allowing light to spill into the kitchen for a warm, welcoming space.

The Bathroom Evolution

Following the clean colour palette from the rest of the home, the bathroom features white tiled walls and a dark wood vanity with ample storage. Finally, to complete the space, the bathroom showcases cool-toned wooden flooring, perfect for functionality and effortless style.
Brian and his renovation team installed a brand new shower for a much-needed upgrade. Installing mirror lighting above the sink brought more light into the area. And for a finishing touch, the space was brought to life with leafy green houseplants, a subtle way to add natural colour.

A Glowing Review

The entire Refresh process left a lasting impression on Alison, who gave brilliant feedback.
“The finishing result of my kitchen and bathroom far exceeded my expectations... I wouldn’t have been able to coordinate the construction workers in the required order, so having Refresh do all of this was a godsend. I would fully recommend anyone thinking of home alterations or improvements to give Refresh a call. I now have a beautiful new kitchen and bathroom and can’t believe the difference it has made.”
Alison was not only blown away by her new renovation but also impressed by how easy the Refresh process was. She knew she could depend on Refresh Renovations to comprehensively manage the project end-to-end, save her money, and significantly reduce the timeline. It is safe to say, Alison is overjoyed with the sleek, modern home she always envisioned.
