Seeking Advice

After purchasing this five-bedroom family friendly property, Kingi and Te Wai wanted to update the tired bathrooms and address poor plumbing to make the home more comfortable for whanau who would be living there. They were new to the renovation game, so they sought the advice from their local Refresh Renovation Consultants, Lawrie and Mandy Foster.
Lawrie and Mandy were able to offer a bathroom renovation plan and budget, but also saw enormous potential in the home and wondered ‘what if?’. After discussing possibilities with Kingi and Te Wai, the couple decided to go all-in on a full renovation that would transform the home into a stunning, custom space with plenty of personality.

Making Plans

With a generous footprint, the home had lots of potential. Lawrie and Mandy undertook concept and feasibility work to determine what was possible and discussed priorities and options with Kingi and Te Wai.
The couple were sold on Lawrie and Mandy’s vision for the home, which would see a complete transformation including a gorgeous kitchen with scullery, beautifully designed bathroom and ensuite, new walk-in wardrobe in the master bedroom, plus a refit of the laundry and a half bath. It wasn’t just the inside that would receive some TLC; insulation and a re-roof were also part of the plan to bring the home back to life.

Expert Advice and Management

A full home renovation is a major undertaking, but Mandy and Lawrie were with Kingi and Te Wai every step of the way. After completing the concept and feasibility study, Mandy and Lawrie took care of every aspect of the renovation including design, build contracts, council consent, securing materials, and on-site project management.
Because the renovation involved everything from custom cabinetry to tiling, flooring, glazing, and more, Mandy and Lawrie had a raft of tradespeople to source and co-ordinate. As local Renovation Consultants, they already had an extensive network of professionals and suppliers they were able to draw on, which ensured not only top-quality results, but competitive pricing.
Coordination of tradespeople and on-site scheduling and management is typically a major pain point for renovators, but with Mandy and Lawrie on board, Kingi and Te Wai could sit back, relax, and watch the exciting transformation take place.
Refresh’s five-step renovation process not only ensured that every detail was taken care of from design through to delivery, but Mandy and Lawrie remained Kingi and Te Wai’s single point of contact throughout the entire project, ensuring seamless and smooth communication.

A Total Transformation

In just two months, Kingi and Te Wai’s home was completely transformed from basic to beautiful, with room alterations, a custom kitchen, playful design choices, luxury bathrooms and a top-to-toe refresh.
The home’s footprint was altered to allow for new, functional spaces. A new walk-in wardrobe was created, the existing bathroom became a laundry room boasting external access, and the kitchen was re-designed to include a scullery which added storage and functionality. A new powder room was also included, but the ‘piece de resistance’ was a bedroom converted into a stunning en-suite.
New kitchen cabinetry from KAD Interiors mixed neutrals and warm timber tones to create a clean, contemporary space and was carried through to the wardrobes and laundry. New flooring, carpet, and paint throughout brightened the entire home.
The bathrooms received deluxe makeovers, with stunning tiling, playful wallpapers, and moody metallic paint. Mitred shower recesses with lighting, twin showers, and frameless glass added luxurious touches that truly elevated the bathrooms to chic, designer spaces.

Final Thoughts

This design-led total renovation delivered in spades, transforming the home into contemporary living with custom elements that exhibited both style and personality. The owners are thrilled with the transformation that seamlessly blended old with new, and injected soul back into the home.
“So much detail went into this stunning renovation,” says Mandy. “From custom moody paint with a touch of metallic for the bathrooms, to creating new modern spaces such as a walk-in wardrobe and scullery, everything was meticulously planned and the results speak for themselves.”
The home is contemporary, but full of fun and personality. “We are so proud of this renovation, and the positive reaction and excitement from Te Wai and Kingi made all our efforts so worthwhile.”
